Over the weekend, comedians Nelly Wangechi and Eric Lu-savali were in Arusha, Tanzania where they performed on two consecutive nights; Friday, 6th and Saturday, 7th December at Twiga Brewery.
The two-night showcase was put together by Tz Punchline, a stand-up comedy outfit based in Dar-Es-Salaam.
Tz Punchline and Punchline Comedy Club, Nairobi, of which Eric Lu-savali is the founder, have a standing arrangement that sees comedians from Tanzania fly out to perform in Kenya and vice versa on a regular basis.
The arrangement, colloquially referred to as ‘The Pipeline’, was entered into in 2022 and has so far seen a number of comedians from either country perform in Nairobi, Dar-Es-Salaam, and now Arusha.
This was the second time in as many months that Tz Punchline staged a show in the metropolitan city and the first time they included international comedians in the lineup.
The entry into Arusha is a strategic move by the founders of Tz Punchline as they look to expand their operations out of Dar-Es-Salaam where they boast a full-time comedy club; a first of its kind in Tanzania.
