It seems as though the comedy gods have been working overtime to deliver the much-needed laughter – given the socio-political climate that we happen to find ourselves in – in Nairobi.
One of the newest comedy outfits in town, Comedy Stall, has announced an open mic night on the 21st of January at Cafe Amka, located along Standard Street in the Nairobi CBD.
The news couldn’t have arrived at a better time for Nairobi’s working comedians as they look to spread the gospel of laughter to as many disturbed souls as they can and lay claim to a year that’s still in its infant stages; “this is our year,” a few comedians have been overheard muttering to themselves along the alleyways of comedy; these walls have ears indeed.
If it all works out, and we solemnly pray that it does, this would be the third comedy room in the not-so-bubbling-CBD-these-days after Number 7 and Pete’s Cafe, both situated along the not-so-famous-anymore Koinange Street. Number 7 as a comedy room is no longer operational while Pete’s Cafe may or may not come back following a successful yet tumultuous run towards the end of 2024.
But the success or failure of a comedy room ultimately depends on whether or not there is an audience, so if you’re reading this, please be sure to book a table on Tuesday 21st by calling the number 0748701585. Like we said, this is our year, innit?
