Comedian John Ribia has revealed plans to record a stand-up comedy special in June.
The revelation was made through his official Instagram page when he posted an image with the caption, “Special coming soon! Spesh (sic)” on January 3rd.
The image also revealed a potential date for the special as June 7th, 2025.
The lawyer, comedian and content creator has been in the stand-up comedy scene since at least 2018.
He has shared stages with numerous local and international comedians. In 2023, Ribia took part in Punchline Comedy Club’s annual Distant Relatives comedy showcase which brings comedians of African descent from all over the world for two nights of stand-up comedy.
In the same year, he opened for legendary South African comedian David Kau, when he made a stop in Nairobi.
Ribia is also the curator of Hyena’s Den, a monthly stand-up comedy showcase at the Nairobi National Park.
The announcement of the special didn’t come as a huge surprise seeing as Ribia is one of the more senior comedians in the fledgling Nairobi stand-up scene.
