After nearly ten years in the Kenyan Comedy Scene, veteran comedian Doug Mutai is set to record his long-awaited stand-up comedy special.
The announcement was first made on Standup Collective’s official Instagram page.
“Pour yourself a glass of giggles and get ready for a night of laughter that’s as rich and bold as your favorite wine.” Said the announcement.
Dubbed, Wine; A Full-Bodied Comedy Special, the live taping will take place on Saturday, March 15 at the Nairobi Laugh Bar.
Doug Mutai is one of the pioneers of the English stand-up comedy scene in Nairobi as we know it and one of the most influential figures in the Kenyan comedy industry.
He made his stand-up comedy debut in Canada where he toured several Canadian cities before returning to Kenya where he founded Standup Collective in 2018 with the aim of providing stage time to English Stand-up comedians.
Standup Collective has gone on to produce comedy shows in Nakuru, Mombasa and Nanyuki and currently runs the Nairobi Laugh Bar – the first full-time comedy club in Kenya.
As a comic, Doug Mutai has toured South Africa, where he performed at the Johannesburg International Comedy Festival as well as England where he performed at Creatures Comedy Club in Manchester.
Being one of the most experienced performers in the country, this announcement couldn’t have been more timely.
