On the 8th of February 2024, at the Wasp & Sprout, a family run cafe located in the leafy suburbs of Loresho; away from the noise and the chaos of the city, a stand up comedy event took place.
The top secret event, called Blacklisted – a storytellers evening, put together by Irish comedian known mononymously as Luke, aimed to bring together masters of storytelling from the Nairobi Stand Up Comedy scene for an evening of fun and laughter.
The comedians were supposed to adapt their material to suit a storytelling format. To make it even more interesting, the story didn’t necessarily have to be funny. “It can be an odd occurence, can be emotional, or comedic. Wherever it takes you.” Luke was quoted as saying.
Some of the comedians who graced the stage on that night included Doug Mutai, Amandeep Jagde, Justine Wanda, David Macharia, Mammito Eunice and Luke himself.
The show ran for two and a half hours and reviews from the attendees were rave.
The second edition of Blacklisted -a storytellers evening will be happening on the 11th of April and will feature some of the best comedians in the game.
