Akau Jambo Presents; USAID What?

Kenyan-born South Sudanese comedian Akau Jambo will be staging his new one-man show, USAID What? at the Nairobi Laugh Bar on Sunday, March 30 from 7:30 p.m.

The entertainer, who has performed in such jurisdictions as South Africa, Australia, Botswana, The United States and Uganda already performed the special in his home country of South Sudan on March 15 to a great reception.

Akau’s special comes against the backdrop of a recent decision by the US government to slash at least 54 billion dollars in foreign aid contracts – this is expected to be an overarching theme in the special whose first part is a play on USAID, the US government agency responsible for administering the now-slashed foreign aid.

“They may have cut the funding, but we’re still funding your laughter! Come join us for a night of hilarious comedy special as we poke fun at the latest cuts and everything in between.” Said Akau on Instagram.

Born in Kenya but raised in Uganda, Akau first performed stand-up comedy at Makerere University in 2016. He went on to achieve a breakthrough, featuring in several high-profile shows and festivals including the Kampala Comedy Festival, HICOFEST in Botswana, and the Kenya International Comedy Festival.

In 2022, he founded the first comedy festival in South Sudan called Juba International Comedy Festival.

The funnyman hasn’t performed in Kenya since 2023.

Tickets to USAID What? are available to purchase via the Standup Collective website.
