Karura Comedy Club has announced a show at Wildly Coffee on March 8 signaling a return of stand-up comedy to one of Nairobi’s most iconic comedy rooms.
Entitled Bush Banter; A Crowdwork And Improv Comedy Experience, the show will star Emmanuel Kisiangani, Bashir Halaiki and Nelly Wangechi.
“No script, no limits, just your topics and our jokes.” Said the info on a poster announcing the show.
Wildly Coffee, located inside the Nairobi National Park was one of the earliest monthly stand-up comedy rooms in Nairobi.
Up to 2023, it was run by the comedy outfit Standup Collective who were the curators of Comedy In The Wild, a monthly stand-up show at the establishment.
Comedy In The Wild took a hiatus in mid-2023.
A year later, John Ribia through his production company Ribia Ent. took over the room with another monthly show, Hyena’s Den. Despite the show’s success, Ribia Ent. pulled the plug on it only a few months in.
Now, Karura Comedy Club, which has recently established a base in Mombasa, is looking to pick up from where Ribia Ent. left off with Bush Banter; A Crowdwork And Improv Comedy Experience.
If the success of past shows at Wildly Coffee is anything to go by, Bush Banter should be an instant hit.
