Kenyan-born, Ugandan-raised South Sudanese comedian Akau Jambo is set to perform at the Nairobi Laugh Bar on March 1.
Akau will be a part of David Macharia’s cross-genre concept showcase, David Macharia And The People That Agreed To Do This Show which is happening for the third time.
The comedian, who honed his craft in Uganda before becoming a world touring comedian hasn’t performed in Kenya since 2023.
He was booked to perform at the Laugh Bar on a couple of occasions last year but none of the performances materialized due to unavoidable circumstances.
Born in Kenya but raised in Uganda, Akau first performed stand-up comedy at Makerere University in 2016. He went on to achieve a breakthrough, featuring in several high-profile shows and festivals including the Kampala Comedy Festival, HICOFEST in Botswana, and the Kenya International Comedy Festival.
In 2020, together with such acts as Malawian Daliso Chaponda and Nigerian Basketmouth, he featured in a UNHCR-initiated online comedy show that was created to raise awareness on forced displacements in Africa. Two years later, Jambo performed at the Johannesburg International Comedy Festival.
In 2022, he founded the first comedy festival in South Sudan called Juba International Comedy Festival.
Outside of Africa, Akau has performed in Australia and the United States.
