Maina Munene will be performing his one-man show entitled The African Dream on November, 7th at the Kenya National Theater.
The show will be a part of the Kenya International Theatre Festival, a festival that happens every year and aims to showcase and celebrate different art forms within the theatre industry and beyond.
Maina will be aiming to do an hour of stand-up touching prominently on his journey from growing up in Laikipia to his struggles as a stand-up comedian in Nairobi.
“My dream this year was to perform an hour-long one-man show and if that happens, then I would have achieved a major milestone in my comedy career,” Munene said.
Maina started doing stand-up comedy a little less than four years ago and he has experienced a rapid rise which has seen him perform comedy in three other African countries, including Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Uganda, and also go on a nationwide tour.
“A lot of people think that because we are Africans, we don’t have dreams. That couldn’t be further from the truth. That’s the main reason I decided to call this show The African Dream; to show the world that even we, beat up as we may be, have dreams”
Maina’s ultimate dream is to sell out the Madison Square Garden in New York, although he jokes that when the time comes, he might be denied a Visa at the US embassy.
Tickets to the African Dream are out and can be purchased on mookh.com, tikohub.com or theatreke.com
