Comedian Darren Collins Bags Kalasha Award

Kenyan based American comedian Darren Collins won a Kalasha Award at the 13th edition of the International film and TV awards ceremony for a children’s short film, Sikicho’s long day.

The Akili Network’s children’s edutainment video, which was made with the aim of creating awareness on intestinal worms and bilharzia, featured several stand-up comedians from the Nairobi comedy scene.

Some of the comedians featured were Maina Munene, Sammy Derrick, Waweru Mbuthia, Steve Kyallo, Maina Murumba, and Titus Mutai.

This was Darren Collins’ second Kalasha award, having won again in 2020 in the Best TV Advertisement category for Dr. Pamoja.

Darren is the co-founder of Project HAND-UP, a non-profit dedicated to teaching health, HIV and AIDS education in East Africa through puppetry, magic, and storytelling.

He is also the Partnership Manager for Akili Network, a free children’s content network, where he serves foundations, NGOs, and for-profits looking to promote education through the Network.
